Scarce 1864 The Magicians Own Book No ReserveThanks to all my repeat customers fro your continued support and patronage during the past year! And welcome to any one i haven't done business with -yet! I am about 2/3 way through the collection, with about another 6 to 8 months to go, so stay tuned. And now, on to todays item. Scarce! 1864 the magician's own book, or the whole art of conjuring published by dick & fitzgerald no reserve! Bieng a complete hand-book of parlor magic, and containing over one thousand optical, chemical, mechanical, magnetical, and magical experiments, amusing transmutations, astonishing sleights and subtleties, celebrated card deceptions, ingenious tricks with numbers, curious and entertaining puzzles, together with all the most noted tricks of modern performers. The whole illustrated with over 500 wood cuts, and intended as a source of amusement for one thousand and one evenings.
This hardcover book is 362 pages long. Profusely illustrated! Author of the book is not stated. Binding is shaken, hinges are cracked. The covers and spine are rubbed, with a few scattered chips and rfaying to the corners, cover edges, spine ends, and along the exterior hinges. The spine gilt is only very lightly faded. Cover gilt remains bright and vivid. There aer no loose, torn or missing pages that i saw, with the exception of a small closed end tear (with tape repair) to the edge of one page. The interior is clean, with the exception of some very light foxing to a few scattered pages, as well as an occasional small, faint soil mark. Overall, this book is in good condition, espceially considering its age of 144 years old! As with any book this old, some ageing and minor imperfections should be expected, as well as the possibility of unobtrusive prior owner's notations, inventory control numbers and / or signatures. We are not responsible for uninsured items (but we haven't lost one yet! ). This is an auction and this lot is being sold as is, so please ask any questions you may have before you bid. Item will be held for 5 days and payment is expected within that time or auction is null and void at my discretion. If you are bidding on multiple items in auctions ending on different days, payment is expected within 7 days so i cna keep things straight on my end. Money order and paypal will be shipped within 3 business days, items paid by check may be held until the check has cleared. Combined shipping at the same price as long as teh weight doesn't kick up to the next higher rate and multiple packages aren't necessary. A note to our international bidders please keep in mind that not all of the costs associated with out-of-country shipping are just for the bare costs of teh postage itself. With the cost of gasoline being what it is these days, it costs me over $5.00 in gas and wear and tear on the car alone to make the special trip to the post office that is required because of customs forms, not to mention the additional itme (usually an additional hour or more, round trip). Also, several times i have taken the packages for out-of-country shipment to teh post office, only to be told that the postage was more than what was charged by the ebay calculator and more than what was quoted by their own usps online calculator. Another consideration is the cost of packing materials (tape, packing foam, etc. ). This is why i have 2 statements in the listing to please click on the shipping calculator to determine your cost to ship this item before you bid so there are no surprises.
I put them there so there would be no surprise as to the cost to ship these items after the fact. Please understand that i do not like these high costs for long distance shipping postage adn the associated costs any more than you do, but i have to pay for them.
